Why should I pay when Spectral is free?
Spectral uses regex and JSONPath pattern matching—it can't understand semantic context. For example, it might flag "status" as "not plural" (false positive) or miss GET/POST tunneling patterns where an operation description says "Delete user via POST" (false negative). REST Lens uses semantic analysis to understand your API's actual intent and structure, catching design issues regex simply can't see. Plus, we import Spectral rulesets—so you can migrate in minutes and get smarter semantic analysis for pennies per evaluation.
What is a check?
A check is when REST Lens validates one endpoint against one rule. For example, an API with 50 endpoints evaluated against 20 rules would be 1,000 checks (50 × 20). Our smart caching means unchanged endpoints are cached for 14 days, so re-evaluations cost significantly less.
How are semantic rules priced?
Semantic rules are billed based on actual usage. The cost scales with your API's complexity (number of operations, descriptions, schemas). Everything is converted to checks so billing stays simple: one unit, one rate. The cost estimator shows the exact breakdown for your spec. Cached results are free.
Do unused credits roll over?
For Pay as you go, purchased credits never expire. For Scale, the €100 monthly allowance resets each billing cycle, but any additional purchased credits carry over.
Can I change plans anytime?
Yes. You can upgrade to Scale or downgrade to Pay as you go at any time. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
What happens if I run out of credits?
You can add funds anytime. We also offer auto top-up to automatically add credits when your balance falls below a threshold you set.
How is storage billed?
Storage is charged at €0.50/GB per month based on your average usage. Scale plans include 10 GB free. We measure storage hourly and calculate your average over the billing period, so you only pay for what you actually use. Storage costs are deducted from your credit balance.
Are Spectral JS functions supported?
Yes. When you import a Spectral ruleset, any custom JS functions are preserved and executed in a sandboxed environment. However, JS functions carry additional runtime overhead compared to native rules. We recommend rewriting them to the REST Lens custom rules format when possible for better performance and lower evaluation costs.
How is VAT handled?
REST Lens is operated by a Swedish company. Swedish VAT (25%) applies to all EU individuals and Swedish businesses. EU businesses outside Sweden with a valid VAT number verified through VIES are VAT exempt (reverse charge). Non-EU businesses are also VAT exempt. You can add your billing details in your organization settings.
